Staveley via Gurnl Dubs

Long Walk (9-15 miles)
Hawkshead-brewery
Date: Thursday, 26 October 2017 10:00 AM

Venue: LA8 9LY, junction of Gower Close and Windermere Road

Hike starting at 10.00 in Staveley which has just reopened its new bridge which was washed away in the floods a few years ago. Our route would have included a very attractive part of the area but as a local told me the last time I was there the footbridge across the River Kent had also been washed away in the floods and was now in Morecambe Bay, this one has not been rebuilt. Nevertheless the remote Reservoirs, the view at Bridge end and the wild moors make this a very enjoayable walk.

Stavely is just off the A591 just NW of Kendal. Park on Windermere Road where there are no parking restrictions. There dont seem to be any other car parks where we can stay all day. The nearest postcode is LA8 9LY. Meeting point - the junction of Gower Close and Windermere Road at 10.00.

We will walk via Gurnl Dubs and Potter tarns into the quiet valley of Longsleddale and go up the valley path to Bridge End. We then return over the fells to Staveley. We will enjoy some of the lower and less walked Lakeland fells. About 9 miles of not too difficult walking but it can be wet underfoot in places.

If you wish at the end of the walk you you can take advantage of the local Hawkeshead brewery in Staveley for a brew or something stronger.
